Which type of shaft should I choose? The Bobby Jones
Hybrid is suitable for players of all abilities and handicaps; the
correct choice of shaft is essential to enjoying the maximum
performance and playability. Every shaft has a flex, how
flexible it is during your swing, and if your club’s shaft has a flex
that isn’t right for your swing it will greatly affect the accuracy,
trajectory and distance of your shots.
If you have a shaft
that is too stiff the ball will travel lower and shorter for a club of
any loft and may move to the right. If you have a shaft that’s too
flexible it will travel too high and will move to the left.
Mid to High-handicappers
A soft and more flexible shaft is recommended, either a M/L or a Regular.
If your shots go to the right or you have a smooth swing the softer M/L
shaft is the better choice. If you tend to hit to the left or have a
jerky swing the stiffer Regular shaft is recommended.
Low-handicappers
A stiffer less flexible shaft is recommended, either a Regular or a Stiff.
It is worth remembering that there is less harm from hitting with a
shaft that is too flexible than using a club with a shaft which is too
stiff. A general indicator is how far you can hit your driver.
If you are carrying more than 250 yards a Stiff shaft is recommended.
If you’re driving less than 250 yards go with a Regular shaft.
This information is provided as general guide, a club fitting with a
golf professional is the most accurate way of determining the correct
shaft for you.
