Bobby Jones – The Masters Inspiration
Bobby Jones changed the game of golf on more
than one occasion. He was the inspiration behind
the Masters tournament, the ultimate ambassador
for sportsmanship and fair play and the winner of
13 major championships. In 1930 he won all 4 of
the major tournaments of that era, the only Grand
Slam in the history of golf.
Jones had always dreamed of having a US Open
played at Augusta National, but the hot summers
in June meant this was unlikely and when Jones approached the USGA with the idea of playing
the Open at Augusta in April, the USGA turned
him down.
Not to be perturbed Jones and Clifford Roberts
decided to hold their own annual event, which
began in 1934. The name Augusta National
Invitation Tournament was adopted even though Roberts had proposed that the event be called
the Masters Tournament. Jones objected to the
Masters name thinking it was too presumptuous
but he relented in 1939 when the name was
officially changed and one of the world's most
famous sporting events was born.
The Bobby Jones legacy goes far beyond the
Masters, the Grand Slam and the famous
sportsmanship and style associated with the man. Today, the stylish and innovative golf hardware
and apparel that bears his name is a fitting tribute
to the sporting legend.
The exclusive range of high performance drivers, hybrids and wedges put the Bobby Jones brand at
